Monthly rewind: FMX, 48 award nominations, Thelma Era and more.

In the bustling month of April, MPC showcased their creative prowess with four project nominations for Cannes Film Festival, including entries such as Marcello Mio and Emilia Perez. Their collaboration on Spaceman showcased over 800 VFX shots, while the upcoming Netflix release of Atlas promises more visual delights. Meanwhile, The Mill raked in an impressive 43 award nominations and secured wins across various prestigious platforms. Project releases from The Mill included campaigns for brands like Cartier, Dove, and Frito-lay, showcasing their versatility within the industry. Mikros Animation entered their 🦄Thelma Era🦄 as we eagerly await the release of Thelma the Unicorn! Last month we also saw the Mikros Animation and MPC teams attend FMX (Film & Media Exchange), where speakers Charley Henley – MPC VFX Supervisor, Julien Meesters – SVP and Head of Creative and Russell Tracy Jr., VP – Creative Operations, Mikros Animation presented on Napoleon and Orion & The Dark.

MPC

What a month it’s been for MPC! In April we saw four projects delivered by our Paris team unveiled in the Cannes Film Festival competition. The Official Selection included Marcello Mio directed by Christophe Honoré and Emilia Perez directed by Jacques Audiard. Whilst the Critics’ Week and Director’s Fortnight respectively included Animale directed by Emma Benestan and À Son Image directed by Thierry de Perretti. Delve deeper into the history of MPC and the films that played a key role at the internationally renowned Cannes Film Festival over the years.

We also saw The Damned and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol be selected for the Official Competition at Tribeca Film Festival! We’re looking forward to their showcase at the event in June.

Working closely with Director Johan Renck and Production VFX Supervisor Matt Sloan from pre-production through to final VFX, MPC delivered over 800 shots for Spaceman 👨‍🚀 Take a look at the VFX breakdown!

In other intergalactic news, we saw the trailer release of Atlas, featuring Jennifer Lopez. With VFX work by MPC, catch it on Netflix May 24th.

Following the 2019 reimagination of The Lion King, the king of Pride rock is back on our screens with the Walt Disney Studios prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King. Blending live-action filmmaking techniques with visual effects, we’re excited for its theatre release this December 20th 🦁

The Mill

This month alone The Mill took home a whopping 43 award nominations across ADC Global, AICP, The Webby’s and The One Show. Award wins included:

Google Best Phones Forever ‘Circling Around’ – Video: Experimental & Weird (Branded)

Driving While Black – Social Video Advertising, Media and PR

A campaign celebrating everything and everyone who makes the game more than a game.

Mikros Animation

The official trailer for Thelma the Unicorn has dropped! We’re thrilled to see our Mikros Animation teams’ work finally premiering on Netflix on May 17th. The epic feature is a stunning collaboration between our talented teams in Bangalore, Montréal & Paris, totalling 500 talented artists. Catch the trailer below:

In more unicorn news, we celebrated the incredibly cute (and unique) creatures for World Unicorn Day. The Mikros Animation channels turned 💞 pink 💞 for the occasion and we had the chance to meet the team behind the project!

Technicolor Games

With XDS only a few months away, the Technicolor Games team is gearing up to attend! B2B platform, XDS Spark, welcomed our very own VP of Business Development, Eric Williams, onto the XDS Spark Advisory Board. The platform is a premium solution for creative industries to meet production goals and business growth. With the newly formed board featuring an impressive roster of industry leaders, we’re thrilled to see a Technicolor Games representative be part of this!
