Meet the Mill+ team: Anthony Bloor, Creative Director

November 22, 2023

In our final interview with the Mill+ team, we chatted to Creative Director, Anthony Bloor. Anthony and his team spent countless hours meticulously analyzing footage of Seoul’s bustling streets to capture the perfect atmosphere and architectural details. The result? A mind-blowing CG environment that flawlessly captures the vibe of this vibrant city for the Mercedes, League of Legends project. Find out more about Anthony and the part he played in Mill+’s latest work 👇

Q: Can you tell us about yourself and how you started your career in Advertising/VFX?

A: I was always interested in graphic design and advertising, I thought it was interesting, so I always had a plan to get into this field. I studied computer animation at university and my first job was in storyboarding/layout for a kids tv show, but in a stroke of luck, the day the series ended pre-production, I got a missed phone call from MPC advertising (now known as The Mill). I spent the next week phoning back the recruiter 3 times a day until they relented and brought me in for an interview, and I stuck around ever since.

Q: How did you first become involved in the Mercedes, League of Legends project?
A: I have worked on quite a lot of full CG projects; I cannot resist getting involved in something like this. As soon as heard about the project’s potential, I was straight on the list!

Q: What is your favourite part of the project as a whole?

A: One of my favourite parts of the project was the level of detail we could put into the environments. You need to put a lot of details into full CG images, and it can’t just be random, so we spent a lot of time studying footage of Seoul streets to get the right atmosphere, the right architecture and so on. It’s a real achievement when you get that vibe spot on.

Q: If you could sum up your experience working on the project in three words, what would they be?

A: The best way to way to describe the project in 3 words? ‘Never stop moving’

Q: What’s your favourite advert of all times and why?

A: This is a tricky question to answer, there have been so many inspiring pieces of work. But my favourite advert of all time, might be a Guinness advert, while many people think the famous Guinness “Surfers” advert is the best, I like the surreal film from Jonathan Glazer called “Guinness: Dreamer”.

Q: What is your proudest moment of your career so far?

A: One of the proudest moments of my career so far was picking up the VES award for the John Lewis advert, “The Boy and the Piano”.

I was over the moon to be able to pick up such an incredible award alongside such a talented team of people! I mean, who doesn’t want to play a part in a John Lewis ad anyway?

Q: Can you tell us about another project that you’ve worked on that you found rewarding and why?

A: One of my most rewarding projects was the teaser trailer for the Wolverine game from Insomniac. The brief was challenging in the time, but having the chance to be the Director meant I could focus on what I thought was the best way to tell the story not just the best way to execute the task as an artist. It’s a different type of pressure, but I enjoyed the challenge.
