May has brought us an array of major moments in VFX for our studios. We’re excited to look back on the latest releases, award recognitions, new trailers (hello Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and more. From Burberry’s ‘Night Creatures’ being shortlisted at the D&AD 2023 awards, to the release of Prehistoric Planet 2, celebrating the success of Hogwarts Legacy, and preparing to meet you at Annecy Festival in June. Here’s what May looked like for our studios.
Our three studios, MPC, The Mill and Mikros Animation have collectively been gearing up for Annecy Festival 2023, with an array of workshops, conferences, projections, and picnics planned. Our wonderful creatives, leaders, producers, and the Technicolor Creative Studios Academy trainer are thrilled to meet you.
MPC
Following the season 1 award-winning success of Prehistoric Planet, MPC VFX artists joined forces with scientists to bring art and science together for season 2. Watch the behind-the-scenes footage with breathtaking views, and exciting conversations from Jon Favreau, Tim Walker, and Mike Gunton.
The live-action remake of Disney’s The Little Mermaid hit the theaters in May. An exciting time as Ariel becomes part of your world with extraordinary visual effects from MPC.
MPC studio are celebrating The Palme d’Or (Golden Palm) is the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival. We are thrilled to have fabricated the visual effects for Anatomy of a Fall, the film that won this year’s Palm.
Anatomy of a Fall was selected for the Palme d’Or (Golden Palm) at Cannes Film Festival out of the exceptional 21 films in the running, and MPC is thrilled to have been a part of the visual effects for the film.
MPC‘s contributions to Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio were highlighted in an insightful masterclass by Inigo V Roy and Vinay Thakur at FICCI Frames in India, showcasing the potential of the VFX and Animation industry.
The Mill
The awards continue to amount, with The Mill winning 3 Telly Awards for their work on Al Jazeera’s ‘Africa Direct’. The Telly Awards recognizes the best work in television and video, across all screens. Receiving over 12,000 entries from all 50 states and 5 continents. A massive achievement for The Mill!
Alongside their wins, The Mill received 8 nominations on the 2023 AICP Awards shortlist and 1 nomination for Burberry ‘Night Creatures’ at the 2023 D&AD Awards. Proud moments for everyone involved.
May continued to be a busy month at The Mill with over 10 project releases from collaborations with Jean Paul Gaultier, PayPal, and OKX, including a Destiny 2: The Final Shape trailer, a Canada Dry advert, and Skiifall ‘2 charming’ official music video.
Mikros Animation
The highly anticipated official trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has been released, we’re now 2 months away from watching the film in cinemas, and we’re eagerly waiting.
The Bangalore studio has been Under the Mikroscope with an array of talent spotlights. Surfacing Artist, Nupur Mehta shares their inspirations, biggest achievement so far, and gives us an insight into their role at Mikros Animation while Lead Animator, Selvan T talks about their career highlights, favorite characters and first projects at Mikros Animation.
Technicolor Games
The Bangalore studio welcomed Andy Emery, President of Technicolor Games in May, as he discussed his vision for the studio and how we can continue to elevate and grow the business, “looking at our current offering and broadening the kind of services we offer”.
Hogwarts Legacy remains the top-selling game of 2023, and Technicolor Games are incredibly proud to have worked on this project with Warner Bros. We continue to celebrate the enormous success of Hogwarts Legacy, including the artists involved.
There were several talent spotlights in May, with Mallikarjunrao giving us an insight into his role as Lead Animator, Team Lead, Manoj Kumar Saini shared their most memorable project at Technicolor Games, and Team Lead, A.V.R Naidu giving us a career breakdown as well as a preview of his personal work.
