Inside The Academy | Our most asked questions

January 4, 2023

Through the Academy, you will gain free access to training from world-leading experts who bring their real-life experience working on some of the most famous VFX intensive projects ever made, including The Lion King and Oscar-winning The Jungle Book and 1917, providing you with the skills to break into your VFX career – fast.

When will your 2023 course calendar be released?

We are still accepting applications to waitlist for the next courses in India, though we have yet to release our 2023 Academy calendar globally. In the meantime, you can browse our courses and express your interest for the course and location of your choice for the next year by filling out this form. Outside of India, locations and course dates will be announced in the new year when applications reopen.

Who can apply?

Our courses are perfect for recent graduates of a VFX-related program or juniors with some experience who are looking for their first break in the VFX industry. You should have a basic understanding of the tools and software used for the department you’re applying for.

Which location should I apply for?

You should consider time zones, the location in which you want to live in, and if you don’t already live there, think about whether you would be willing to relocate to to that city if you were offered a position. Your eligibility will also be determined on immigration/working rights in that location.

What will I be taught during the course?

Our courses are tailor-made for each discipline with multiple modules and assessments. You can view this in our course descriptions here.

I’d like to join The Academy but I need to work on my skills

You can brush up on your skills by exploring our learning resources and recommended materials for each course at three different levels, advanced, intermediate, and foundation. We also host regular webinars with our Academy trainers on YouTube here.

What does the interview stage look like?

It can take two weeks from the time you apply to a potential acceptance into the academy. After your profile and demo reel has been reviewed, all eligible candidates will need to complete a department specific enrollement test to make sure you have the skills and software knowledge as well as your creative and technical skills. Once passing this stage, you will be invited for a 10-15 minute video interview so that we can get to know you better and address any of your questions.

What happens after I complete a course at The Academy?

In the last week of the Academy course, the heads of department will review your performance and academy exercises and determine if they would like to offer you a position. This is entirely dependent on the shows and open positions in the department at that moment.

Whether you are offered a position or not, in the weeks following the end of your Academy course, you will receive a response from the Admissions Team. If you are not offered a position, we encourage you to seek out other opportunities and continue to excel in your career. We also keep your contact on file and if positions fitting your profile open at later dates, we will reach back out to you.

You will also receive a Certificate of Completion from the Academy Team.
