Technicolor and the heyday of Hollywood Musicals

This decade is remembered as the heyday of the Hollywood musical as evidenced by Technicolor classics.

Classics included:

• White Christmas (1954)
• Singin’ in the Rain (1952)
• Gentleman Prefer Blondes (1953)
• An American in Paris (1951)

While directors John Huston and Jean Renoir created their own more independently minded music-based films with Moulin Rouge – Romulus Films; and French CanCan – Renoir’s film.
